So…over the past couple of weeks Averin and I have been back and forth between DC and The UN to speak on the floor about Social Development. We were able to convince Head of State members and International NGO’s (Non-Government Organizations) and NPO’s (Non-Profit Organizations) representatives that in order for the UN to create amendments regarding humanitarianism and social development; we must first define a universal language that is comprehensive and representative of all countries. From there; we were able to edit, create, and amend Pillars of Sustainable Development. Being the only representatives from our generation; we were able to give insight as to how our generation collaborates on Social issues with synergy rather than trying to push secular agendas. We created a dialogue for inclusion while everyone came for their own agendas. Not only were we able to edit the committee’s Sustainable Development Goals, we were also able to watch the entire world vote on our changes (PASS: 29-12)
Being the youngest in the room, we also were (on record) able to take control of the floor and implement a platform that would take all youth advocacy or advocacy created by youth and centralize focus. We were able to gain direct access to already implemented government programs advocating for the youth in over 13 countries. I’m proud to work with such an awesome and inspiring person and cannot wait to continue this journey. We’ll be back next month during the CSW (Commission on the Status of Women) to bring light to Women in Sports and the Wage Gap from our generation’s perspective. If anyone has any input, or would like to gain access; I would love nothing more than to work with you…..Averin Heroic Collier
