President Biden is the American leader we need right now.

It seems many leaders in the USA do not appreciate the President we have. 

The Friends of the African Union believe we are living through an era defined by challenges to accountable and transparent governance. From wars of aggression that challenge the global rule of law since the end of WWII to changes in climate, societal mistrust in the midst of historical factual denial and technological transformation, it could not be clearer that all around the world, democracy needs champions at all levels.

President Biden is one of those champions.

He is the President we need at this time.  

A time when a member of the United States Congress on the 2023 Presidents Day celebration in America, did say “We need a national divorce. We need to separate by red states and blue states and shrink the federal government.” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-Ga.) said “From the sick and disgusting woke culture issues shoved down our throats to the Democrat’s traitorous America Last policies, we are done.”

And no one in the republican party leadership stood up to condemn those words.

Those words are called secession, and American states already tried that over slavery starting in 1861 and it caused a civil war in which they lost, then and will lose again now.

We have a President who was ready for those words as he is co-hosting the second Summit for Democracy, March 29th and 30th 2023, which will assemble world leaders in a virtual, plenary format, followed by hybrid gatherings in each of our countries with representatives from government, civil society, and the private sector.

We have a President who was ready for those words from day one of his Presidency with Executive Order 13985 entitled Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government, which established that affirmatively advancing equity, civil rights, racial justice, and equal opportunity is the responsibility of the whole of our Government.  

We have a President who was ready for those words who set the board to further advance equity within the Federal Government with action over the past 2 years in creating landmark legislation — including the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021; the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act; division A of Public Law 117-167, known as the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors (CHIPS) Act of 2022; the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022; and the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act 

We have a President who was ready for those words who through executive action has vigorously championed racial equity and has advanced equal opportunity for underserved communities.  All executive departments and agencies have engaged in historic work assessing how their policies and programs perpetuate barriers for underserved communities and developing strategies for removing those barriers.  They have made important progress incorporating an evidence-based approach to equitable policymaking and implementation, and they have crafted new action plans to advance equity.  The work sofar to transform the way the Federal Government serves the American people has been complemented by Executive Order 14035 of June 25, 2021 (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility in the Federal Workforce), which continues to help ensure that the Biden-Harris Administration — the most diverse in our Nation’s history — reflects the growing diversity of the communities we serve.

We have a President who was ready for those words and we at Friends of the African Union hope for our words in the Global Compact for Democracy with a #JustEconomy driven by the updated #BlackFolksPlan to be brought into action with the Biden-Harris Administration as a public-private partnership.

We do this work as an American civil society organization created for people of the global African family who are citizens of the USA, and in partnership with our allies, as we unite to fight the words and deeds of Marjorie Taylor Greene and her peers, allies, and supporters.
